web design
Friday, 10 May 2013

I actually wrote a draft with about 400+ words about web design, when I realised... Who am I kidding?I actually wrote it Terence style. And I felt uncomfortable writing like that because it isn't me. So I'm just going to approach this topic my way.

Web design can be pretty simple, yet complicated at the same time. Simplicity is hard to achieve, no? Even though a layout can be so simple and plain looking, looks can be (and are) rather deceiving. I bet Terence's layout has so many layers underneath it, together with some Javascript and lots of graphic editing. When you're designing a blog (I'm just going to stick to blogs because I can't say that I know much about websites with all those servers), you don't aim to get a perfect design. You aim to get a design that is pleasing to the eye and in a way, helps to attract more viewers! YAY!

A bad design will really deter your readers from coming back again. Honestly. If you have neon yellow as the background and white words for your blog posts... Try to change your design. A design with words that are readable would be good enough! Of course a banner or two will enhance your site. But I'll talk about it later. A blog's design really depends though. You can design it the way you like with all your favourite colours, or you can design it in a way you think your readers would like. It works either way, I guess. Just try not to put too bright colours for your fonts or backgrounds because it really really really spoils it.

Also, the fonts are extremely important. If you decide on having Comic Sans as your main font... Try to change your decision and stick to something more sophisticated. Heck, Times New Roman is better any day. Fancy fonts like Curltz MT (I think) being your default font doesn't really make the cut too. I mean, your posts are supposed to be easily readable, they aren't supposed to be fancy. You can spice it up with some GIFs and pictures.

After reading the few paragraphs above, you can tell that I don't really know much about web designing. Honestly. I'm just speaking with 5 years of experience. Not like that's a lot. But if you want to design a blog, GO FOR IT! Just scan through blogskins to find out the recent trends (yes, there's really such a thing) and get inspiration. Then it's up to you and your imagination! If you have no idea how to design, don't fret because blogger has this super easy interface for your editing. And it's pretty cool in my opinion. Blogs like Terence, Amelia, and Tiffany have amazing design and I'm just in awe * - *

So this is just what I feel about web designing. After O's I'm totally going to make one :)
